Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa voiced his sorrow on Friday for the bus accident that killed at least 35 people and injured 32 before dawn that day in the coastal province of Manabi.

Staff from the Transit Accident Investigation Service (SIAT) arrived at the scene and said the accident was probably caused by a failure in the brake system and an excess of passengers.
"This is an enormous failure and I am asking the general police commander and the police commander of the province to explain why they had allowed this vehicle to leave with an excess of passengers Tiffany Rings," said Director of the National Transit Council Ricardo Anton.
Ecuadorian transit authorities on Friday temporarily shut down "Reina del Camino," the local transport company that owned the bus that crashed.
Anton said they would suspend the company's operations and demand an immediate inspection of all vehicles owned by the cooperative. He did not rule out the possibility of revoking the company's operation permit since it has been involved in several traffic accidents in the country.
