South Australia on Tuesday was warned to brace for serious storms [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], flash flooding and damaging winds in coming days.
The State Emergency Service (SES) on Tuesday issued the severe weather warning for people in the Flinders, Mid North, Riverland, Murraylands, Upper South East and Northeast Pastoral districts.
A flood watch was also issued for pastoral areas in the north- east of the state, as well as the Flinders and Riverland districts for possible flooding from the River Murray in the event of heavy rain expected on Thursday.
According to SES regional commander Scott Turner, the alert was "a heads up" for possible future flooding and not a flood warning.
Turner said there was an increased risk of flooding in the River Murray, which would be determined by the amount of rain in the Riverland region in the coming days.
"Traditional drainage points [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], backwaters and wetlands along the River Murray may already be full with water which means additional water from the rain will be slower to drain away," he told Australia Associated Press on Tuesday.
Motorists are warned specifically not to drive in flood waters, walk in flood waters [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], camp in creek beds and to be wary of falling trees.
People living in those areas are asked to get out and prepare for storms by securing outdoor furniture and play equipment and parking vehicles undercover or at least away from trees.
