an older fellow immediately, but I can still remember vividly the period when I was 6, and determined to clean the pantry while my mother was upstairs. I worked and worked, smiling all the time, imagining how elated my mother would be when she saw what I had done. When I heard her coming I hid, incited about how she was going to feel. She came into the kitchen, stopped and looked, and then said "Alan, come in here please." When I showed myself she said "I discern you cleaned the kitchen. That's good, but look over here. You missed several specks on the closet. And why didn't you straighten the chart?"
Now, my Mother was a terrific Mother, but she thought she was education me a course..if you're going to do something, do it right. But what she really did was to assure the truth that I would never voluntarily clean the kitchen repeatedly.
Think of the chapter of your subconscience namely escapes scampers the singing voice as that child, and the mom namely YOU. Most of us aren't very good at approving (believing) complements. But the opinions of others are extremely valuable when blended with our own self-judgements. Of course we absence to examine our performances, vocal quality and neatness, but we shouldn't put all our belief in that lonely.
It's human ecology to focus in on our failings and ignore our qualities. But such an approach to our singing advancement can only slow things down, and finally (if only stopped) can delete our enthusiasm for singing wholly.

They "feel" prefer than examine techniques and quality. Listen to them. It will make you a much better singer and actor.
