If the show does becomes an unfortunate hit [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], America's level of self-respect even in this time of uncertaintly will have sunken just to a new low.
The HR Live Feed recently announced a new show from Ryan Seacrest Prods. and E! Entertainment Television where ordinary people ask sorta celebrities for cash.
Truly Innovative Philanthropy
There is no level of tact, sensitivity or taste in the handling of this program that can overcome its very concept. All of that was thrown out the window when a very highly paid television and radio personality failed miserably in his attempt to relate to everyday viewers with a reality program that can neither provide the necessary escapism nor contestants who can be looked down upon and laughed at for their buffoonery. The concept itself just hits too close to home for far too many people.

The latest from Seacrest [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who also conveniently brought us a Denise Richards reality show shortly after her break-up with Charlie Sheen, sets out to give away "tons of money to everyday people as a means of alleviating stress in today's climate and have fun".
Unless everyone who comes onto the show is getting money, the "fun" must be watching notable people filter through a wide-ranging variety of pitches from people in serious financial need or a greater need for fifteen minutes of fame. Either way, the concept falls just under If I Did It on the scale of unnecessary and repugnant.
Shameful New Reality Show
Far more innovative philanthropy would be to scour Facebook or Craig's List to find out who is looking for work and in need of having some bills paid. Purchase a few foreclosed homes and rent them out affordably. Even more innovative would be for E! (or any other company for that matter) to pare down the excessive salaries they pay out to far from irreplaceable talent and unnecessary new layers of upper management so as to spare a few employees the pink slip. A greater opportunity for some of these ordinary people would be for some of these notables to add a few of them to their payroll instead of going on television just to have fun and be seen giving away tons of money.
Shame on Ryan Seacrest for coming up with such a concept. Double shame on these "notables" for attaching themselves to the wrong project as means of gaining exposure. Triple shame on E [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]! for not only entertaining the notion that people struggling to make ends meet want to see other people in similar situations begging the far more prosperous for money, but also scheduling such an exploitative program while in the midst of several rounds of layoffs.
The series is said to be centered on the concept of "innovative philanthropy". As truly innovative as giving money away on television is, having people come on television and tell their sob stories in front of a panel of judges for the "opportunity to garner life-changing sums of money" isn't exactly philanthropic.
