Hydrogen Bonds
Each strand is made up of nucleotides, each of which contains a sugar called deoxyribose that is connected to a phosphate group and a found. The base could be adenine, cytosine, guanine, or thymine. The phosphate group of a nucleotide connects to the sugar of dissimilar nucleotide to form a chain of nucleotides, or a DNA strand.
An oxygen atom on the phosphate group bonds to a carbon on the deoxyribose molecule. This phosphate-oxygen-carbon (POC) linkage is called an ester bond.
