When purchasing your fabric and ribbon, keep in mind the rest of your holiday decor. You don't have to use only green and red. Whatever colors you choose,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], make sure your fabric co-ordinates not only in color but in texture. You don't want a luxurious satin for a rustic style. By the same token you wouldn't want burlap for a high-end decor. Whichever fabric you choose for this project, you will get better results using a solid color fabric.
Materials Needed:
3 Yards of fabric (36-45 inches in width)1 1/2 Yards of battingHot glue gun and glue sticksCo-ordinating 3" wired ribbon (approx. 9 yards)ScissorsSewing machingWireWire cuttersPencilNeedle and thread
Instructions
Cut the 3 yards of fabric in half.Take one of the pieces and fold it in half and in half again.You will have one corner that is the center of your fabric. Cut the corner off about 4" from the point in an arch.On the opposite side you have a point that has no folds and a corner on each side of it with folds. Draw an arch from one corner with folds to the other corner with folds. Cut on the line.When you open the fabric you should have a circle in the center and a circular shape to the outside edges. Cut a line from the center hole to the outer edge.Lay this fabric on the other piece of fabric and cut it out so you have two matching pieces. Repeat this step with the batting.Lay out the fabric with right sides facing. Lay the batting on top. Stitch around the entire piece including one side and center circle. Leave an opening on one side for turning the fabric.Turn the fabric right side out. Stitch up the opening.The slit is the back of your skirt. Find the center front by folding the skirt in half with the two cut sides together. The opposite fold is the center. Mark with the pencil.Bow Making
Cut 6 pieces of wire eight inches long each. Cut one piece of ribbon in each measurement as follows: 32", 28", 24", 20", 16",[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 16", 14",[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 12", 12", 10, 8" and 6".Now cut 6 pieces 4" each.For the largest bow, take the 32" piece of ribbon and fold it in half with the ends overlapping slightly in the middle. Lay the 16" piece underneath and wire the center secure.Repeat for the 28" and 14".Repeat for the 24" and 12".Repeat for the 20" and 10".Repeat for the 16" and 8".Repeat for the 12" and 6".For each bow clip a 'V' out of the ends of the bottom piece. Fluff up the top piece. Wrap a 4" piece around the center to hide the wire. Hot glue into place.When all six bows are done,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], lay them out on the center line of your skirt starting with the largest on the bottom and working your way up, with the smallest closest to the center hole. Don't leave space in between the bows, When you have them positioned just right they will resemble a Christmas tree. Hot glue them into place.You can edge the skirt in the ribbon or leave it plain.
You will be making a tree skirt and a series of different sized bows. When it is all assembled the bows will look like a stately decorated Christmas tree.
